Empowering future cyclist of Selangor

Cycling Selangor is an initiative founded by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Crown Prince of Selangor to unearth and develop the next cycling world champion hailing from Selangor. Cycling Selangor does this by working closely with cycling communities across Selangor and empowering them to be involved in the development of the sport. Cycling Selangor would also play an important role in facilitating and connecting the various cycling communities to government agencies and private companies to increase the impact and visibility of community cycling programmes in Selangor.

To achieve the vision and mission of His Highness the Crown Prince of Selangor, Cycling Selangor will be focusing on 3 key areas which are junior development, events & media and facility development. For the first year, a lot of effort will be focused in the events & media department which is aimed at increasing the awareness and participation in cycling events amongst the public. These events include criterium races through the ‘Selangor Criterium Series’ and a cycling carnival such as ‘Ride Your City’ to celebrate the various types and activities that cycling can offer to the public. The increase in media visibility and access to quality and affordable cycling events would hopefully improve the awareness of cycling and catalyse the establishment of junior cycling programmes and development of cycling facilities in Selangor.

By Communities For Communities

Selangor Criterium Series is created by His Highness Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the Crown Prince of Selangor to promote the racing culture among the cycling communities in Selangor. There are currently various racing competitions being organised at junior and elite level but unfortunately not much has been done at community and amateur level. Selangor Criterium Series is therefore created to fill up this gap and provide a platform for various age and cycling groups at amateur level to race in a safe and conducive environment.

Since 2016, there has been a lot of criterium races organised by cycling communities across Selangor to promote and grow the sport. Unfortunately most of these races are generally illegal, lacks overall direction, low media coverage and lack safety measurements. Selangor Criterium Series aims to address these issues by working closely with community groups such as Orbit Cycle, Speed Zone, Specialised PJ, Amaniz and many others to organise a competition that is legal, safe, visible and most importantly inclusive. The first edition this year will feature a total of 9 categories in 3 venues which are

  • Cyberjaya – 29th September 2018
  • Bukit Jelutong – 28th October 2018
  • Shah Alam – 10th November 2018

In the near future, it is hoped that SCS will continue to grow by introducing more categories and having monthly races across Selangor every year.
