SEPANG – Last Saturday marked the prefinal race before the end of Selangor Criterium Series (SCS) 2019.

The 4th Race in the series was held in the compounds of MaGIC Village, Cyberjaya, sprinting through the likes of Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) itself, Cyberview, as well as Dash Box Hotel Cyberjaya.

A slight notch below the last race in technical diffulty, MaGIC Village makes up for it by being riddled in both soft and sharp turns, spread out throughout the 1.2km course.

Nik Mohamad Azuan Bin Zulkefli of PDRM Cycling Team pulled ahead of last race’s Men Elite champion, AFG by Prologue’s Sofian Nabil Omar at 00:36:49 and 00:37:20 respectively. Third place fell to Muhammad Nur Aiman of Kencana Plan-A at 00:37:22, just 2 seconds behind the runner-up.

In the Men A category, a 4-way 00:33:53 finish saw Faz Adhili of Kencana Plan-A sprinting up to 1st place after race official’s AES aided judgement, followed by this year’s consistent top 2 powerhouse Muhammad Syafiq Bin Syahrill Izwan Khoo of One Cycling Team. Ahmad Luqmaan Bin Azman Shah and Muhammad Aidil Bin Taufid Afendi both of AFG by Prologue placed 3rd and 4th place respectively.

Last race’s 3rd place Men B category Muhammad Isyraq B Mohzani of Kencana Plan-A launched himself to the top spot at 00:33:28, a full 15 seconds ahead of runner-up and second runner-up Muhammad Iskandariah Medina Bin Mohd Hisham also of Kencana Plan-A and Ahmed Benazzi Bin Fauzi of AFG by Prologue, both finishing at 00:33:43.

The Men C category saw the new kid on the block, Muhammad Amirul Aiman Md Noor of Speedzone beating Azwan Abdul Malek of Wolfpack Cycling Team by a fraction of a second, both finishing at 00:18:26 ahead Kencana Plan-A’s Megat Harith Wafri at 00:18:34. Last race’s 1st place Men C newcomer Mohamed Akmal Syahmi Hisham of Amaniz Cycling Team placed 5th at 00:18:50, which boosted his individual points total to 80 points and moving him to the Men B category along with Azwan Abdul Malek for the final race next month.

Yet another newcomer to SCS 2019, Ezzatie Fifiyana Shazwanie Binti Shaiful Hisham took the reins of the Women A podium 2 seconds ahead of Race 02’s champion Yeong Zhen Yi at 00:19:37 and 00:19:39 respectively. Masziyaton Binti Mohd Radzi of PDRM Cycling Team finished 3rd at 00:19:43.

As with previous races, SCS 2019 Race 04 brought along its cause partner to bring their noble cause during the race day, this time being The Lost Food Project (TLFP). A forerunner in the rescue of quality and nutritious surplus food running since April 2016, The Lost Food Project have rescued more than 0.9 million kg of surplus food and provided more than 3 million meals, directly and indirectly preventing more than 1.7 million kg of carbon emissions right from our green backyard, Malaysia. As customary to SCS 2019, all winners were adorned with a custom medal molded with TLFP’s motifs, with 1st place winners donning winner’s jersey customly designed bearing TLFP’s theme. TLFP also held a charity stationary bicycle race named the Cycle For Food, supported by Yellow Bike Company.

The position of the 6 teams within the standings has not changed since Race 03, with Kencana-Plan A Racing Team leading at 15830 points, followed by AFG by Prologue at 12776 points, Bukit Jelutong Cycling Club at 9376 points, Amaniz Cycling Team at 8523 points, Speedzone at 4517 points, and Peloton2K at 2261 points.

The Selangor Criterium Series is a product of Cycling Selangor, an initiative spawned and organized by Selangor Youth Community (SAY). Currently in its 2nd run, the SCS is bringing a breath of fresh air to the cycling scene in the country this year, using a “bikeability” grading system to sort out its contestants regardless of age. With 8 different categories, the men are divided into Men Elite and Men A to D, women into A and B, and an open Fixed Gear category.

The next race will head back to the Sepang International Circuit for the grand finale on December 7th.
